Up to 1500 guests can enjoy up to 7 outdoor and 13 indoor pools in the Nymphaea recreation complex which opened in the summer of 2016. In addition, the 6 buildings house a whirlpool, indoor and outdoor spas, saunas, 13 water slides, adventure baths, aroma and light therapy sections and a Turkish bath.

In the instance of this grandiose project, it was important to use coverings which, on the one hand, meet the challenges of an aqueous complex, including the domed design of the Turkish bath, and also to match different styles – and all in as cost-effective a manner as possible due to the large surface area in question.

This is where Slate Design ultra-thin stone veneers came in. In the course of the general construction of Kész Építő és Szerelő Zrt., the building complex in Oradea also boasts ultra-thin clay slates with special features in several places.

In designing the Turkish bath – inspired by the Rudas bath –, the goal was to achieve a limestone effect in a safe way while covering the dome and other curved surfaces. Here the ultra-thin Tan structure clay slate veneers with a thickness of just 2-3 mm were used.

“During the construction of the Nymphaea Wellness and Adventure Centre in Oradea, the need arose to create a thermal water pool that truly brings alive the atmosphere of a Turkish bath. The use of Slate Design stone veneers in the vaulted archway and the dome above the pool area was the ideal decision. With the sheets used, we could follow the curved edges in both directions and we were not only able to achieve a pleasing finish, but also an authentic Turkish bath feel, and cost effectively to boot,” said Zsolt Szalay, chief engineer of KÉSZ Zrt., at the completion of the project.

The Copper New shade of the LiteStone range was used on the curved balustrades of the huge central part where the slides are located – here, in contrast to the Turkish bath, surfaces were covered with close fitting tiles. You should also observe the narrow lower edges of the curved balustrades which, thanks to the professional design, feature the same material throughout.

One of the most spectacular surfaces can be observed in the Relax Room where the Indian Autumn Texture of the Translucent product line has been incorporated which, thanks to the precisely set backlighting, has become a refreshing focal point in the complex. Here, the translucent stone veneers were used not just in the standard size but also in an extremely large size of 2440 × 1220 mm.
