24 May Stone Veneers As Decorative Facade Elements
There is a noticeable trend of newly built houses featuring to a greater or lesser extent some kind of decorative stone veneer. Placing traditional (a few cm thick) natural stone veneers requires careful preparation on the facade surface. The cost of the pre-wall system and the cantilever necessary for the secure fixing of the heavyweight stone veneers can often greatly increase construction costs.
The ÉMI certified, ultra-thin Slate Design stone veneer tiles with their glass fibre reinforced synthetic resin substrate are perfectly suited to covering family home facades. The approximately 2 mm thick sheets weigh only 1.5-1.8 kg/m2. As a consequence, using an appropriate adhesive, the prepared (netted), insulated facade surfaces can easily be covered, thus avoiding material and labour costs associated with cantilevering.
This was the case for the Szombathely family home, pictured, where Slate Design’s very popular Black structure mica slates from the LiteStone range were used as decorative facade elements. As with many other outdoor projects, Mapei Keralastic-T high-performance two-component synthetic resin adhesive was used, while the slate surface was treated with Slate Design Stain Repellent Nano Effect impregnator.
